Purpose of Site
The Discovering Discovery website has been designed as a revision tool for students completing the Area of Study: Discovery as part of the New South Wales English Standard and Advanced Stage 6 courses. The content and activities displayed on this website address all three sections of the Paper 1 – Area of Study (AOS) HSC examination: Short Answer, Creative Writing and Essay Writing. As part of the Area of Study, students are also required to respond to a range of related texts. For this reason, an additional section devoted to sourcing and analysing related material for the AOS: Discovery has been included. To access these sections, click on the links across the top of the website. Be sure to hover your mouse over each link to view any supplementary pages.
The Discovering Discovery website is suitable for use both inside and outside the classroom as students have the option of submitting their responses to the website or completing their responses in an external document (e.g Word or OneNote) and uploading them to their school G drive. Teachers can direct students to explore this resource when revising for internal assessment task (e.g Half Yearly Exams). Alternatively, they can incorporate this resource into their English lessons at their own desecration. It is important to note, however, that in order for students to successfully use the Discovering Discovery website, they require a solid understanding of the AOS: Discovery and their core text, as well as the textual analysis skills necessary for deconstructing visual and print-based texts.
If you or your students have any questions regarding the website or the AOS: Discovery in general, please visit the Discovering Discovery Forum, located under the ‘More’ link at the top of the page. Alternatively, if you require further information on the AOS: Discovery try some of the links listed on the Useful Resources page.
